In 2023, head coach DeMeco Ryans led Houston to a nearly 180-degree turn around, winning 10 games and making a deep run into the playoffs after three consecutive seasons with double digit losses. Ryans is in his second season as head coach.
The home fans gave the team extra energy during the Texans’ January playoff game against Cleveland in the Wild Card Round, which helped the team defeat the Browns 45-14.
“With fans being in early, being loud when we’re in the stadium, it’s a really unique and really cool atmosphere, especially playing here in NRG Stadium,” Ryans stated. “I just think about our playoff game against the Cleveland Browns when it’s packed and loud.
”
this. Seeing how full the stadium was and the significance it held for our players made it an incredibly memorable occasion. It gives them greater drive and vitality to carry out their duties.”
Ryans hopes that the excitement from January will continue into the 2024 season, which includes eight home games, starting with a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Bears in Week 2. Ryans knows the meaning of a loud home crowd in their seats at kickoff, having played for the Texans for the first six of his ten-year NFL career.
Ryans remarked, “They give our team energy.” “We sense it. Our athletes are aware of it. It is felt by coaches. The enthusiasm that our fans bring to the game is felt by all.”
Week 1 of the regular season will see Ryans and the Texans play on the road against the Colts before coming home to play Chicago the following week.
