Ben Sheaf, a key midfield player for Coventry City, is not as close to returning as many people had thought, according to Mark Robins.
Since limping out with an ankle injury only minutes after entering the game midway through the second half of the preseason friendly against League One team Stevenage last month, the recently confirmed captain of the Sky Blues has been out of action. He was compelled to miss the three warm-up matches against Werder Bremen, Everton, and Darmstadt as a result.
It has now been revealed that the 26-year-old has been recuperating from ligament damage, which Robins acknowledged was a “fairly bad” injury during Saturday’s opening 1-0 loss at Stoke.

When asked when he hopes to see Sheaf return, Robins said that the midfielder’s quality was much missed at the bet365 Stadium.
When asked if he regretted losing Sheaf, he responded, “Yes, and I am hoping to have him back very soon.”
But then the manager disclosed, “He’s not back on the grass yet. Next week, he still has to work indoors on the alter-G (anti-gravity treadmill), but after that, he can go outside on the grass. But because that was a rather serious injury, it will take him some time.
Sheaf will then need to make up for lost match minutes in the warm-up games by getting his conditioning back up to par.
