Wolves confident of beating Tottenham to “promising” Max Kilman replacement

Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have yet to find a replacement for Max Kilman, who left the Midlands for London and West Ham United, are now allegedly confident of beating Tottenham Hotspur to their defensive target.

Wolves have had a mixed window, losing Pedro Neto and Kilman while signing Jorgen Strand Larsen and youthful stars Pedro Lima and Rodrigo Gomes. With two weeks until the window closes, Gary O’Neil will be acutely conscious of the necessity to replace the top players who chose to go this summer.

On that front, those in the Midlands have already been linked with a number of prospective Neto heirs, ranging from Brentford’s Yoane Wissa to Barcelona’s Ansu Fati. Both alternatives might be strong competitors to fill the vacuum left by the Portuguese winger, with Fati being an especially intriguing target considering his ascent and eventual collapse at Barcelona due to injury. Meanwhile, O’Neil’s team has to replace Kilman in the backline, which they could solve by signing a player with a lot of potential. According to Graeme Bailey of HITC, Wolves are now confident of signing Bastien Meupiyou ahead of Tottenham Hotspur after submitting a second proposal of £4.3 million.

Wolves reportedly had a £3.4 million deal rejected by Nantes for their defender. The Molineux will be trying to match the French club’s value after offering over £1 million more in their most recent approach.

At 18 years old, there’s no doubt that Meupiyou is a future player who will succeed Kilman in years to come, rather than just this season. Given Spurs’ alleged interest, signing the teenager would be a coup if Wolves could complete the deal within the next two weeks.

“Promising” Meupiyou is a long-term solution.
If Wolves can agree on a deal for Meupiyou, his role will be interesting to watch considering his age and potential. O’Neil, In contrast, given that the teenager made only one Ligue 1 appearance last season, the former Bournemouth manager may decide that Meupiyou must first prove himself in the academy. Despite that one start, the Nantes player impressed U23 scout Antonio Mango, who characterised the defender as “promising”.
Wolves, who have apparently launched a second proposal, will be looking to secure a defensive reinforcement who can address O’Neil’s problem in the Midlands for years to come.
