Iker Casillas, a football star, has been in Newcastle and visited St James’ Park as part of his new duty. Last year, the former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper was named FUN88’s brand ambassador. Despite negotiating a £25 million-per-season agreement with Sela in the summer, Newcastle United’s former shirt sponsors FUN88 remain official partners with the team. Casillas uploaded a snapshot of himself at Grey’s Monument on Instagram ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League match against Burnley at St James’ Park, with the caption: “Visit Newcastle.”
The 2010 World Cup and three-time Champions League winner was at St James’ Park as part of his job as FUN88’s brand ambassador, promoting the ‘FUN88 Ultimate Football Experience’ in Newcastle’s executive boxes. Newcastle’s major jersey sponsors from 2017 until 2023 were FUN88, who are still the club’s official ‘Asian betting partner’.
“Thank you FUN88 for your incredible support over the last 6 seasons,” Newcastle United’s official account said in the summer. We look forward to working with you as our Official Asian Betting Partner in the future.”
Casillas has previously stated that Newcastle United is his ‘favourite’ English team. The 42-year-old is one of football’s most decorated players, having played 725 games for Real Madrid and winning 18 championships. Casillas also played 167 times for Spain, winning the European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as the World Cup in 2010.
He joined Porto in the latter parts of his career, making 156 appearances and winning the Portuguese league and cup before retiring in 2020.
