The Utah Jazz announced on Monday that they had signed rookie Kyle Filipowski after choosing him in the second round from Duke.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Jazz inked Filipowski to a four-year, $12 million contract, the most for a second-round pick in the past two years. Marks also stated that Utah used its remaining $3 million in cap space to sign Filipowski.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the contract is fully guaranteed for the first two years, non-guaranteed for the third year, and includes a team option for the fourth year.
Filipowski’s fall to the 32nd pick was rather surprising following two excellent years at Duke. During his two years with the Blue Devils,
Filipowski averaged 15.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.1 blocked shots, and 1.2 steals per game. Last season he averaged 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Filipowski had a tough start to Summer League, going scoreless in his first game and scoring only four in his second. He improved his performance in the second half of Summer League, averaging 11 points, six rebounds, 1.9 assists, and one steal per game.
The conclusion of Summer League demonstrated that Filipowski has a lot of promise as a player, and he’ll try to establish himself in his rookie season.
Filipowski was the final of the Jazz’s three rookies to sign. Utah signed No. 10 pick Cody Williams and No. 29 Choose Isaiah Collier in July. Williams signed a four-year, $24.897 million contract, while Collier signed one for four years and $12.903 million.
