Wrexham continue to look for a new striker, but Phil Parkinson still needs to work out a deal for Sheffield Wednesday’s Michael Smith.
Wrexham have had a decent start to the season. The season opener against Wycombe Wanderers was a fantastic occasion for Wrexham, who not only returned to League One but also won 3-2.
Wrexham’s 4-2 defeat at Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup was not a major setback, but they certainly wanted to tighten up against Bolton Wanderers.
After conceding six goals in two games, Wrexham put up a solid defensive performance at Bolton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.
A 0-0 tie was not the most exciting game of all time, but with Arthur Okonkwo impressing in goal, Wrexham will be happy with a clean sheet. According to Michael Smith, Wrexham lacked attacking potency against Bolton, despite Steven Fletcher coming on as a substitute in the second half. Sam Dalby was an unused replacement, and Paul Mullin is still out, so Wrexham need a striker.

According to reports from earlier in August, Wrexham have held negotiations to recruit Smith as Phil Parkinson seeks to strengthen his attack force.
Smith came off the bench to score against Plymouth Argyle on the first weekend of the Championship season, but he could quit the Owls. The Sheffield Star has now added that Wrexham are ‘far from an agreement’ with Wednesday, with no movement being made towards a contract.
Smith was introduced at halftime in Wednesday’s defeat to Sunderland on Sunday, indicating that he is still in Danny Rohl’s plans at Hillsborough.
Time is running out as the summer transfer deadline approaches, and Wrexham certainly need to work hard to close the deal. Wrexham were rumoured to be interested in signing a younger forward during the transfer window.
Kieran Bowie, Bailey Cadamarteri, and Will Lankshear have all been targeted, although results have been uneven.
Bowie joined Hibernian, Cadamarteri is yet to go, and Tottenham intends to keep Lankshear as things stand.
Wrexham are now hunting for another experienced striker in Smith, and fans may wonder if that is what Parkinson requires.
Wrexham already has plenty of experienced forwards, with Steven Fletcher 37, Ollie Palmer 32, and both Paul Mullin and Jack Marriott 29.
Adding Smith, who turns 33 in October and poses a physical danger in the last third, appears to be more of the same for Wrexham.
Perhaps Smith is only one option on Wrexham’s radar, but after adding younger prospects like Lewis Brunt and Sebastian Revan, we’d rather Wrexham take that path again, even if only on loan for the season.
