Brighton & Hove Albion are likely to loan Amario Cozier-Duberry, who was left out of their first-team squad this weekend following his summer transfer from Arsenal.Amario Cozier-Duberry, an Arsenal academy winger, joined Brighton & Hove Albion this summer after rejecting a contract offer from the Gunners. Cozier-Duberry scored twice in his debut Brighton game, a friendly against Kashima Antlers, so the transfer appeared to be paying off right away.
However, Cozier-Duberry only played 30 minutes in Brighton’s next three friendlies and was left out of their matchday squad to face Everton on Saturday.
Andy Naylor of The Athletic claims that Cozier-Duberry will now be sent out to the Championship, with many clubs keen and a loan considered as a better alternative than infrequent substitute appearances.
The main issue is that there is no clear path to minutes for Cozier-Duberry at Brighton right now.
Fellow summer signing Yankuba Minteh (20) is less than a year older than Cozier-Duberry (19), and he impressed in the preseason before starting the first game. He was replaced by Simon Adingra (22), another highly rated winger.
Brighton has also signed Brajan Gruda (20), another high-priced right-wing signing this summer. Gruda would most likely have played on Saturday if he had been signed earlier.
With at least three players ahead of him in his position, not to mention the injured Solly March, Cozier-Duberry will not get a chance with Brighton this season.
Except for March, none of them are nearing the end of their contracts, therefore it may be just as difficult to play for the team next season.
Cozier-Duberry’s best bet right now is to follow in Omari Hutchinson’s footsteps, impressing with a Championship team and attracting transfer interest so he can move on fast.
