Portsmouth have joined Sheffield Wednesday in their pursuit of Brighton forward Mark O’Mahony, according to The News.
Portsmouth are still aiming to improve their ranks following a busy summer transfer window spent preparing for Championship action. They made a promising start by holding Leeds United to a dramatic 3-3 draw on the opening day. They subsequently drew again with a good team, this time 0-0 against 10-man Luton Town. However, there is still work to do on the Fratton Park squad. Colby Bishop is out for the long time due to heart surgery, leaving a gap in the team up top.
A fresh striker has come on Pompey’s radar.
Portsmouth is on the trail of Brighton potential.
Mark O’Mahony, according to The News. He primarily plays as a centre-forward, and has done so with tremendous success throughout his early career. Impressive performances at Brighton’s prestigious academy have propelled him into and around the first-team picture.
However, with the abundance of attacking skill at the AMEX Stadium, he could be sent out on loan. Sheffield Wednesday are also reportedly interested in 19-year-old O’Mahony as they search for a late attacking addition of their own.
Strong competition.
Portsmouth may be in a good position to recruit O’Mahony, but Sheffield Wednesday will undoubtedly compete for his services.
In recent transfer windows, the Owls and Brighton appear to have developed a positive relationship. Following James Beadle’s successful tenure at Hillsborough in the second half of last season, they approved a year-long return for him this summer.They know they can trust Wednesday and manager Danny Rohl with their young players, and Hillsborough is likely to be a good fit for O’Mahony’s future.However, Portsmouth have been an excellent club for young loanees to join. Just last year, Abu Kamara and Alex Robertson prospered under John Mousinho, so they should have a decent chance of gaining If O’Mahony heads to Fratton Park, he has a good opportunity of making it his own. That might be a significant advantage for Pompey in their effort to beat Sheffield Wednesday to a deal.
