Wolves won three crucial points at Molineux after losing in the Carabao Cup to Ipswich Town just days before.
It was a performance that seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Wolves had struggled to produce results.
That defeat to Ipswich was heartbreaking, and it had to have weighed on morale in the days that followed.
But O’Neil used a different strategy against City, and it worked brilliantly – and Lineker applauded the head coach for the way he set up…

Richards was full of praise for Wolves, singling out Pedro Neto for his outstanding performance.
And Lineker made certain that the manager received accolades.

Against the champs, the Wolves’ head coach was dead on.
It was critical to gather men in and around Haaland to put an end to his danger.
Then, putting his quickest – and also hardest working – front line in Neto, Hwang Hee-chan, and Matheus Cunha was a no-brainer.
This season, O’Neil hasn’t always gotten it right.
However, this demonstrated his ability as a coach, and we expect to see more of these tactical masterclasses in the future.
