After seven Premier League games this season, both Villa players have received four yellow cards. If a Premier League player receives five yellow cards in the first 19 games of the season, they are suspended for one match.
Yellow card suspensions will be used just to Premier League matches and will not be carried over to cup competitions such as the Europa Conference League. Villa’s next six league games are against Wolves, West Ham, Luton Town, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Tottenham.
Digne has stepped up in Alex Moreno’s absence at the start of this campaign as the Spaniard continues to recover from a hamstring injury which he suffered back in May. Luiz was voted as Villa’s player of the season last term and has continued his fine form in this season. He has featured in every game which Villa have played this term and became only the second player to score in five consecutive home Premier League appearances for the club, after Dwight Yorke in December 1996, by scoring Villa’s sixth goal in the 6-1 win over Brighton on Saturday.
Villa occupy fifth place after winning five of their first seven league games. Emery’s side go in search of their first Europa Conference League group stage win on Thursday against HSK Zrinjski Mostar, before travelling to Wolves on Sunday before the October international break.
