500 drones took to the skies over St James’ Park for the second night in a row ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter. Newcastle United fans were given another chance to watch a special drone display over St James’ Park this evening, sending the message “We’re back.”
As anticipation grows for Wednesday’s match against PSG, preparations are underway to welcome Champions League football back to St James’ Park for the first time since 2003. At 8 p.m. tonight, 500 drones took to the skies to commemorate the return.
Among the shapes illuminating the sky in Newcastle city centre were the Newcastle crest, player shirts, and a footballer kicking a ball. At 9.45 p.m., there will be another exhibition.
On Monday evening fans across the city were lucky enough to capture the first run through, with many images and videos of the display quickly circulating on social media. It proved a huge hit with fans and many gathered at the top of Eldon Square car park to watch tonight’s display.
While on social media people also shared their appreciation for the display. One person wrote: “Fantastic drone display to celebrate being in the Champions League, proud to be a Geordie. WE’RE BACK.” A second said: “Never wished I was in Newcastle more than I do right now… UCL is back, drone shows and just the general buzz of the city will be amazing! Sucks living in Manchester!!”
