How bad are things when other teams begin to feel sorry for you?
Pretty terrible. However, that is exactly what is happening with the New York Giants and their troubled quarterback, Daniel Jones.
The Giants were humbled 28-6 by the Minnesota Vikings in their 2024 season opener on Sunday. They were so poor that their normally devoted followers began to leave in the third quarter, while those who remained booed loudly.
It is a sad statement to be written off by the fan base in the first weekend. So awful that the Vikings felt sorry.
We started to feel awful for him because we’re still fully taking away everything he wants to do,” Vikings outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard stated on the Power Trip Morning Show following Minnesota’s 28-6 victory over Jones. “Hey, it’s good to be on the other side of it, and it’s our job to not be on that side.
Jones was the poster kid for the tragedy. The offence was as flat as one could expect, starting with him being sacked five times and hit 12 times in all. Oh, and he also threw a pick six.
The Giants went 7-18 on third down, 1-3 on fourth down, 0-3 in the red zone, and 0-1 in goal-to-go situations.
Jones’ career has been a train wreck since he signed a four-year, $160 million contract deal in March 2023. Since then, he has only played seven games due to neck and knee problems. The games he has participated in have been terrible.
The Giants are 1-6 during that time, and Jones has thrown for an average of only 156.4 yards per game, with two touchdowns and eight interceptions (three pick-sixes) for a passer rating of 65.1.
He’ll get a chance to quell the criticism this week in Washington against the Commanders, a team he’s had a lot of success against. If not, we could be looking at Drew Lock sooner than expected.
