BREAKING NEWS : Mavericks re-sign Markieff Morris in nod to 13-year vet’s leadership role

DALLAS (AP) — Markieff Morris, a 13-year veteran who has played little since joining Dallas, is returning to the Mavericks. The reigning Western Conference champions value his leadership.

Morris participated in 26 regular-season games in 2023–2024 before the Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals and fell to Boston in five games. The deal was made public on Wednesday.

For the Mavericks, the 35-year-old Morris scored 2.5 points on average in 8.3 minutes. Before the 2023 trade deadline, he joined Dallas in the historic transaction that sent star player Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks.

Morris has played in 776 regular-season games and averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds. He was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoffs squad for all 21 games as they won the 2020 playoff bubble.

Morris, who was selected by Phoenix with the 13th overall pick in 2011 from Kansas, played for the Suns for his first four and a half seasons. Morris has also been a player for Miami, Detroit, Oklahoma City, and Washington.
