Four clean sheets in a row is a simply incredible record for Wrexham as teams struggle to break down Phil Parkinson’s side. The star man in the back line is goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo following his summer move from Arsenal.

Okonkwo was exceptional on loan at Wrexham last season and his permanent move was an enormous coup.

The shot-stopper has now spoken to GQ Sports and admitted that he has one superstition before every game.

Okonkwo admits that some people think this superstition is ‘insane,’ but it has only worked for him thus far.

“My goalie gloves are an absolute must-have,” Okonkwo stated.

“When it comes to gloves, the most crucial factor is aesthetics; I want to feel comfortable while playing. Adidas and I have been together for years, and comfort is also crucial, and Adidas has been able to provide both.

“I basically have a superstition that I need to wear a new pair of gloves every game. When I tell people that, they think I’m crazy, but I prefer to give them away to fans who adore them, but it leaves me a little short on gloves,” he added.

Okonkwo, already regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in League One, may face a significant decision.

Transfer interest may arise, but Okonkwo’s most worrisome predicament is his international future.

According to reports last week, Okonkwo has been in talks with Nigeria about a prospective international swap.

Okonkwo has previously represented England at the youth level, but is eligible for Nigeria through his parents. Okonkwo revealed his desire to play international football in May, and Nigeria can now provide that opportunity.

The Wrexham goalkeeper must soon decide whether to stay in England and bide his time or to move to Nigeria and become an international as soon as possible. Wrexham will just hope that his focus does not shift in the coming weeks and months following a fantastic start to the season.
