Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have now set their sights on a second UK sports team after their success acquiring control of Wrexham and pushing the club back into the Football League. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the owners of Wrexham FC, are now attempting to expand their Hollywood appeal to another sports team.
The stars are in talks to buy shares in Cardiff-based Hundred cricket team Welsh Fire. Dan Cherry, the CEO of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, which owns a 51% part in the team, believes the proposed investment may be a “huge opportunity” for the sport.
He stated that it could encourage future sports stars to “pick up a bat and ball” and “build the game in Wales”.
“We’re really proud of our Welsh heritage,” he told me. “And we’ve seen the fantastic work that Ryan and Rob have done in engaging football fans in North Wales and building that brand globally.”
He went further: “It gives huge opportunity to the game to expand its footing and to grow it, as we’ve seen with The Hundred, with lots of great crowds, family crowds coming in.””I believe it will inspire the next generation of players to pick up a bat and ball.”.png?auto=webp&format=pjpg&width=3840&quality=60)
The England and Wales Cricket Board plans to sell 49% ownership in each of the eight Hundred cricket teams.
Cricket officials expect this will raise almost £500 million. Ryan (Deadpool), 47, and Rob (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), 47, have improved the Red Dragons’ fortunes since purchasing the club in 2020.
They oversaw Wrexham’s return to the English Football League for the first time in fifteen years.
