Fulham have joined West Ham in the race to recruit former Liverpool defender Joel Matip.

The 33-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Liverpool terminated at the end of last season. According to Football Insider, West Ham, Fulham, Bournemouth, and Wolves have all expressed interest in signing the central defender. The seasoned defender has made 150 Premier League games for the Reds.

However, there are questions over Matip’s fitness, as he only made 14 appearances last season due to cruciate ligament injury.

Matip has apparently held negotiations with teams in France and Germany about a prospective trade, but he has yet to sign with any of them.
Throughout his career under Jurgen Klopp, Matip has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Champions League. Fulham did, however, buy Joachim Anderson from Crystal Palace for £30 million during the summer transfer window.

However, Marco Silva is interested in providing further coverage in that area with Matip.
