After the transfer of Appleton, Charlton Athletic should evaluate three free agent goalkeepers.

Michael Appleton, the manager of Charlton Athletic, has stated that the club would keep an eye on the free agent market for a goalkeeper.
Following Harry Isted’s injury, Charlton Athletic may require some goalkeeping cover. Last night, the Addicks defeated Exeter City 4-1 at home in League One.

Against the Grecians, they started Ashley Maynard-Brewer in goal. On the bench was a young Henry Molyneux.

According to London News Online, Appleton stated, “I think the only way we’re going to get someone in without potentially, god forbid, Ash (Maynard-Brewer) getting injured is people who are free transfers.” There are still two or three out there that could work.”

With that in mind, here are three possibilities for the London club…

Steer, Jed
The former Charlton loanee left Aston Villa at the end of last season and remains available. The 31-year-old spent ten years at Villa Park and was an England youth international early in his career.

Steer went on to make 36 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League club during his decade there. Along with the Addicks, he had loan spells with Doncaster Rovers, Huddersfield Town, and Luton Town.

Macey, Matt
As Appleton considers his goalkeeping alternatives, he should consider him. The ex-Arsenal man joined top league new boys Luton Town in September.

Macey

Macey has since been considering his alternatives in order to return to the game. Last season, he spent 21 games on loan at Portsmouth in the third division.

Mr. Joe Lewis
The 35-year-old is a tremendously experienced stopper and has had 538 matches under his belt so far. He became a free agent after his contract with Aberdeen expired in late June.

Lewis joined Celtic in 2016 after playing for Norwich City, Peterborough United, and Cardiff City. Charlton might keep an eye on the Suffolk-born man as they consider their options.
