Charlton Athletic may feel worried about their present manager following a major decision in the Championship on Sunday.
Charlton Athletic may be sitting uneasily after a Championship club fired its head coach on Sunday. Cardiff City has made a dreadful start to the season, earning only one point and scoring only one goal.
The Bluebirds were expected to go on from their top half position last season, but they have done anything but. Just months after granting head coach Erol Bulut a new contract, Vincent Tan and the Cardiff board have opted to sack him, choosing for a fresh start following rumors of a falling out between the now-former Bluebirds manager and his assistant, as well as internal criticism of training sessions this season. A Cardiff statement read: “Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that First Team Manager Erol Bulut has been relieved of his duties and will leave the club with immediate effect.” The Board of Directors would like to thank Erol for all of his efforts and wish him continued success.First Team Coach Nikolaos Karydas will also go, leaving with the Club’s best wishes. Additional backroom staff confirmation will occur in due course. Omer Riza will assume leadership of the First Team on an interim basis, as the Club looks to
“Recruit a new permanent First Team Manager.” The development could cause problems for Charlton, as manager Nathan Jones has previously been connected with the position. The Welshman was favourite to get the position at various periods in the summer, when Cardiff were still indecisive about offering Bulut a new deal, and he is also emerging as one of the early favourites in the aftermath of Sunday’s news.
Jones’ Situation
Jones took over the Addicks in February, signing a long-term contract. Charlton had a terrible season overall last season, but they have started nicely this season, with 13 points from seven games and now positioned fourth.
Jones stated when he accepted the Charlton position in February: “I am extremely excited about the challenge ahead of me at Charlton.” I have wonderful recollections of this club from my time here, and I want to help move it forward.
“I’ve been asked by several clubs about returning to management, but I’m waiting for the proper chance. Based on my interactions with the Board and the long-term nature of the contract, I can see there is a genuine desire to develop something here, which I am really excited to be a part of.”
