Ashley Williams feels that after West Ham United’s devastating 3-0 loss to Chelsea, manager Julen Lopetegui has given the wrong players the wrong positions. West Ham had high hopes of upsetting Chelsea when they went to the London Stadium on Saturday, but they fell short. A brace from Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea a 2-0 lead at the half, and Cole Palmer scored the third goal for the Blues just two minutes into the second half.
After the Hammers’ dismal start to the season, Lopetegui—who was selected by West Ham to succeed David Moyes—is under fire. Lopetegui had support from a number of summer additions.
Former Premier League defender Williams believes Lopetegui should examine his team’s formation since the Spaniard is doing things incorrectly.
The incorrect players have been assigned to the wrong tasks by Julen Lopetegui, Williams claimed on BBC Match of the Day.
“This is his strategy; that man needs to accept some of the blame for the outcome.”
West Ham are currently preparing for a trip to Liverpool to face Arne Slot’s side in the EFL Cup.
