NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Authorities are investigating after an officer discharged his service weapon while trying to arrest a suspect.
Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, officers with the City of New Braunfels Police Department responded to the scene of a reported disturbance near the corner of Roaring Falls and Stone Vally.
When officers arrived at the scene, officers found a male subject who refused to exit his residence.
While trying to make contact with the subject, officers saw a home aiming a shotgun at them through a window. This prompted one of the officers to fire his service weapon at the subject.
The suspect exited his residence a short time later through the front door, brandishing a knife. Officers subdued the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, a 63-year-old man from New Braunfels, was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels by EMS, for treatment of superficial, non-life-threatening injuries.
It is unclear whether or not the officer’s gunfire struck the suspect. The suspect is set to be charged upon his release from the hospital.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, and the officer involved, a Patrol Sergeant with 17 years of experience, has been placed on Administrative leave pending the investigation.
