Rotherham United poised to cut ties with 24-year-old on a permanent basis next summer

Rotherham United’s Josh Kayode is’set’ to quit the club when his contract ends next summer, according to the Rotherham Advertiser.
In July, Rotherham United loaned the striker to fellow League One club Shrewsbury Town to get playing experience. However, he has sustained an injury and will be out until at least December. Kayode, 24, has spent his whole career at the New York Stadium and progressed through the South Yorkshire club’s academy system. However, he has been loaned out several times to other teams.

In this newest update regarding his long-term future with his parent club, the Rotherham Advertiser state that

Kayode made his Rotherham United debut in 2017 in an EFL Trophy match against Manchester City Under-21s.

To date, the Dublin native has made 37 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring three goals.

Kayode has previously been loaned out to Chesterfield, Gateshead, Carlisle United, and MK Dons to get playing experience.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has made four appearances for Shrewsbury Town this season and scored once.

What happens now?
Kayode’s immediate focus will be on healing and returning to the pitch with the Shrews. When he is available, he adds competition and depth to the top line.

It appears he may have played his final game for Rotherham United, which is unfortunate for him.

However, it affords him the opportunity to establish roots somewhere else next year.

 

His odds of gaining opportunities with the Millers now are minimal owing

He faces competition for his spot from Jonson Clarke-Harris, Sam Nombe, and Jordan Hugill.
