JUST IN : The summer transfer window will see the departure of West Ham United Star.

Said Benrahma left West Ham United in the summer transfer window, after nearly four years at the London Stadium.

After his London Stadium exit in the summer, Said Benrahma posted a seriously emotional goodbye message to the West Ham fans.

French side Lyon agreed to pay West Ham £12 million for Said Benrahma in the summer transfer window (BBC).

In fairness, most Hammers fans were quite happy with that deal – the Algeria international had been awful for us during his final six months with the club.

The 29-year-old is a mercurial talent, and he did some brilliant things for the Hammers throughout his London Stadium spell.

The most memorable moment the former Brentford man had at West Ham was the penalty he scored in the Europa Conference League final – one that levelled the scores before Jarrod Bowen went on to win it for us.

However, I don’t think we ever truly saw the best of Benrahma in a Hammers shirt.

Had he remained at the club in the summer, he may well have been given more freedom to express himself by Julen Lopetegui.

What Said Benrahma is thinking after West Ham exit

The winger has made just two appearances for Lyon since making his loan move a permanent one in the summer.

He has failed to bag either a goal or an assist this term, and was left out of the Lyon squad completely for their clash with Marseille on Sunday.

Things clearly aren’t going well for Benrahma right now.

And a brand new claim has just come to light about his thinking after a stuttering start to life with the Ligue 1 outfit.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Benrahma is unhappy with his lack of playing time at Lyon, and thinks he may well have ‘downgraded’ by joining them from West Ham in the summer.

That is quite the claim. Lyon have won just one out of their first five league games in France – the same as West Ham!

Coincidentally, they have the same points as we do and are currently sitting in the same position in the league table as we are.

So maybe Benrahma’s decision to join Lyon wasn’t that great in the first place.

Said Benrahma never fulfilled his potential at West Ham

The Algerian never thrived at the London Stadium under David Moyes.

In all honestly, Benrahma and the Scot were never a match made in heaven were they!

I always thought that the 29-year-old would have flourished playing under a manager who gives his forward players more creative freedom to express themselves.

During his final season at West Ham, Said Benrahma was an absolute shadow of the player who got the fans off their seats at Brentford.

It seems like he’s still struggling with his form out in France with Lyon as well.

And according to reports coming out of France, Benrahma could well be wishing that he had remained at the London Stadium.

I wonder if he would have had more success under Lopetegui? Nobody will ever know the answer to that question unless he came back to West Ham.

Could that really happen though? I highly doubt it.
