The Rotherham Advertiser reported that Rotherham United forward Ciaran McGuckin’s loan to Rochdale fell through over the summer.
Rotherham United were set to loan the forward to the National League club on a temporary basis, but an injury scuppered the move. He has subsequently joined fifth-tier club Yeovil Town.
McGuckin, 20, has been with the Glovers since January and is looking forward to getting plenty of playing time this winter. He made his debut off the bench against Oldham Athletic last weekend, and they drew 1-1.
After moving to Huish Park, he told the Rotherham Advertiser: “The size of the club speaks for itself. I am ready to play some games. The lads are fine, and the training facilities are superb. I’m a striker who like playing on the shoulder and getting in behind. Hopefully, I can score a lot of goals for the fans.
McGuckin, a Rotherham United attacker, has joined Yeovil Town to gain more regular playing time.
It’s a bad his mooted move to Rochdale fell through, but the Millers have finally secured an exit for him.
The Northern Ireland youth international has spent his whole career at the League One team.
He advanced through their young ranks and became a regular for them at various levels.
McGuckin has appeared six times for the first team in all competitions to date.
He had previously been loaned out to Scarborough Athletic and Dundalk to further his career.
The teenager would have had to compete with Jonson Clarke-Harris, Sam Nombe, and Jordan Hugill for a place in Steve Evans’ squad, which is why he was permitted to join Yeovil Town.
McGuckin is scheduled to return to New York Stadium in January, and they will monitor his performance in the interim before deciding what to do with him next.
This weekend, Rotherham United face Shrewsbury Town away.
