SHOCKING NEWS : A Texas Longhorns linebacker was arrested by the police.

Texas Longhorns defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat was arrested by the Austin Police Department last weekend on DWI charges following an accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on the 13000 block of IH 35 N.

According to the arrest affidavit, Sweat was rear-ended by another vehicle, causing the accident. Once police arrived on the scene and performed a sobriety test on Sweat, he failed, leading to the charge.

At the time, the driver of the other car in the incident was unidentified.

Now, according to a report from LonestarLive.com, his identity has been revealed as Texas linebacker S’Maje Burrell. Burrell was not arrested or charged, per the report.

Details emerge after ex-Texas football star T'Vondre Sweat arrested

“When T’Vondre Sweat was arrested early Sunday morning in a driving while intoxicated case, it involved a car accident in which the former University of Texas star defensive tackle was rear-ended by another driver,” the report states. “The other driver in that accident has been identified as a current Longhorns football player. In a heavily redacted incident report provided to LoneStarLive.com by the Austin Police Department, redshirt freshman linebacker S’Maje Burrell is listed as the driver of the other vehicle.”

Per a separate report from Inside Texas, Burrell, who was a four-star recruit and a key signing of the 2023 class is no longer with the team following the incident. Upon signing with Texas, Burrell ranked as the No. 59 player in the state of Texas and the No. 33 linebacker in the country.

Burrell is now expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, which opens again on April 15, just before the Longhorns annual Orange-White spring scrimmage.
