Jamie Shackleton was injured and missed Leeds United’s win over QPR on Wednesday, according to Daniel Farke.
Farke was commenting during his post-match press conference following Leeds’ 1-0 win at Elland Road, in which Shackleton was inexplicably absent.
Shackleton had started each of Leeds’ last three Championship games, and Farke confirmed in his press conference on Tuesday that he had no new injury worries heading into the game against QPR.
Luke Ayling was brought in on the bench to replace him at right-back, with Charlie Cresswell taking Shackleton’s position in the matchday squad.
Farke has previously stated that Shackleton has shoulder issues, but that this has not kept him out of any games.
Farke reveals the reason for Shackleton’s absence.
Unfortunately, Shackleton is claimed to have taken a hit to his shoulder in training on Tuesday, making it extremely uncomfortable for him to participate.
“Yes,” Farke replied. Unfortunately, he suffered a minor knock on his shoulder in practice yesterday, and he had some shoulder difficulties before; it was too uncomfortable and sore for him to be engaged tonight, and that was the reason he wasn’t with us today.”
Based on what has been said about Sam Byram, Farke may have an issue at left-back on Saturday if Shackleton does not recover in time.
It is unclear whether Byram is at the level where he can play three games in seven days, and with such a short turnaround to Bristol City, it appears unlikely that he will start.
With Junior Firpo already out, Shackleton’s absence could provide a serious dilemma for Farke, forcing him to play someone out of position.
