Georgia football gets a massive commitment from five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin.

Georgia once again is getting some news on the recruiting trail. Kirby Smart and his staff did receive some bad news yesterday as the Bulldogs lost the No. 1 QB in the 2026 class. There really is no bigger loss that a program can have to a recruiting class than losing the best quarterback in the country.

That however didn’t stop Smart in his staff from rebounding the very next day and getting one of the top players in the country in the 2025 class.

Five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin

Elijah Griffin is a five-star defensive lineman from Savannah, GA. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Griffin is the No. 4 overall player in the country. Griffin also is the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 1 player from the state of Georgia.

Griffin chose the Bulldogs over Miami (FL) and USC on Friday. While Griffin did technically have these three programs as his top three, it never really felt like any other program had a chance in this recruitment.

Georgia in total held five crystal ball predictions to land Griffin on 247Sports. Two of these predictions date all the way back to January with a third coming in February. So there really never was a doubt if UGA would win this recruitment or not.

Griffin visited Georgia this past weekend when the Bulldogs beat Mississippi State 41-31. Even though the game didn’t really go as we had hoped defensively, that clearly didn’t scare Griffin away.

This commitment from Griffin propels Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class from No. 5 in the country to No. 3. The Bulldogs still find themseleves behind Ohio State and Alabama in the team rankings, but the Bulldogs still have some big fish out there that look to be leaning towards a Georgia commitment as well. None are greater than fellow defensive lineman Justus Terry, who is the second ranked defensive lineman and No. 9 overall player in the country.

Good news for UGA fans is that Terry is trending towards Georgia as well, so it may just be a matter of time until Smart adds another five-star defensive lineman to the class.

But for now Georgia gets to celebrate the commitment of Griffin, which as of now is the top commit in the Bulldog’s 2025 class.
