Max Verstappen defended his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and called for an end to online bullying after the Brazilian model responded publicly on Instagram to derogatory rumors and accusations leveled against her.
Piquet, 35, posted an emotional letter on her Instagram account on Tuesday, urging fans to stop spreading ‘falsehoods’ about her.
She added that she had ‘in the past three years been navigating a bizarre and upsetting tsunami of accusations’, some of which were related to her prior relationships, with the 35-year-old dating Russian Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat.
The post spurred Red Bull driver Max Verstappen to express his public support for Piquet.
‘This needs to stop. “These false accusations made by certain individuals on Instagram and TikTok are insane and ridiculous at the same time,” the reigning Formula One world champion stated on Instagram. ‘Hate has no place in our world. We understand what is true within our family, and we are extremely happy together. I love you,’ he said, using a heart emoji.
Piquet, the daughter of former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet, is well-known both in the sport and online, with 1.5 million Instagram followers.
Piquet responded to the new claims against her on Instagram with an emotive statement, urging social media users to think twice before spreading rumors online.
‘A note from me and a simple reminder to everyone…’ Piquet began.
‘The internet may be a fantastic place for many reasons, but it can also be incredibly dangerous when false information and misinformation are spread.
‘I am unaware of how to combat hate motivated by misinformation. I pondered writing a response and letting it stand.
She was born in Homburg, Germany, and spent the majority of her youth living in France before coming to Brazil.
The couple divorced later that year, with Piquet going on to date Verstappen.

Piquet has been spotted routinely in the paddock supporting her partner, and they were pictured sharing a victory kiss after Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November.

Verstappen presently leads the Formula One driver standings, 56 points ahead of Charles Leclerc, going into next week’s Spanish Grand Prix.
