BREAKING NEWS : West Ham United board make Julen Lopetegui sack decision after Tottenham loss

Julen Lopetegui retains full support of the West Ham United board despite the defeat against Tottenham, according to Roshane Thomas.

The Hammers suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of Spurs away from home in the Premier League on Saturday (19 October), resulting in increased shouts for the Spaniard to be sacked.

However, writing in The Athletic on Sunday 20 October, Thomas reported that the West Ham hierarchy continues to back Lopetegui despite seeing the team self-destruct in North London.

Julen Lopetegui running out of time at West Ham United

As things stand, David Sullivan appears to be in support of Lopetegui, but, in football, things can change in the blink of an eye.

While the Irons brought in the former Sevilla manager to replace David Moyes with high hopes, they find themselves sitting fifteenth in the table with eight points after as many games.

When they spent big in the summer, including over £50million on Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron-Wan Bissaka [The Athletic], they did not expect themselves to be just five points above the relegation zone at this or any point.

ESPN pundit Craig Burley pointed out the team’s lack of identity under Lopetegui and he could not be any more right.

Even in his final season as the Hammers boss, Moyes led the side to a ninth-placed finish and Lopetegui’s start to his tenure at the London Stadium has left a lot to be desired.

Therefore, time is running out for the tactician and another defeat against Manchester United at home on Sunday (27 October) could make things worse for him.

In other West Ham news, Mohammed Kudus could receive an extended FA ban for his meltdown against Spurs.
