PHIL PARKINSON is preparing to enhance his team with the signing of a free agent after a second Wrexham striker was sidelined by injury.
Leading scorer Jack Marriott injured his leg in a minor incident during training last Thursday and will be out of action for at least four months. The Reds manager has not stated when former Scotland international Fletcher will be available, but he is limited on attacking options.
Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer began up front against Huddersfield, with Mo Faal coming off the bench in the second half to make his Wrexham league debut, and while captain James McClean has previously played as a striker, Parkinson is inexperienced in that role.
Parkinson had been dealt
“We’ve had a little bit of disruption in the last week or so with Jack and then Fletch’s knee flaring up over the weekend,” Parkinson told me.
“Fletch has got a problem so that is a real blow for us with Jack being out and Fletch going down.”But injuries happen, and you can’t complain too much since we have other players, such as Mo, who has been waiting for his chance.
“There are other players who are ready and waiting, and while Fletch returns, we will make sure we keep earning results and ideally staying at the right end of the table.
“We simply need to keep together when we are a little short in certain areas of the pitch.
“Concentrate on getting the results and working as a team because that is what we are all about.”
Parkinson stated following Saturday’s 1-0 win against Rotherham United that he was not seeking for a replacement for Marriott, but this has changed with Fletcher also absent.
Clubs are only allowed to sign free agents until the winter transfer window starts in January, and the Reds’ manager is considering his alternatives.
“We are obviously looking at that with Jack’s injury and then Fletch was an additional blow,” he said.
