he New England Patriots are having a very tough season, as they have only won one game and have a 1-6 record. Tension has built up in their facilities and head coach Jerod Mayo has been right in the middle of it as he now answers the criticism from Bill Belichick.
His former head coach in New England blasted him for calling the players soft. “I don’t think they’re soft,” Belichick said on the Pat McAfee Show, noting that they are the same players he had last year and that those comments hurt. Later, on the Let’s Go! podcast hosted by Jim Gray and Tom Brady, went into more depth about it.
I think when you criticize your team publicly like that, it doesn’t always come out well,” Belichick said. Now, the current coach and former player of the team has clapped back at the legendary Belichick and nobody thinks is a good idea.
Time to defend himself
Jerod Mayo was not happy with what happened but he tried to remain focused on his team. “Look, like I said, my main focus is the guys inside of this building, not only the players, but also the coaches and the rest of the staff,” Mayo said.
“Look, as soon as we turn this thing around, then we’ll be OK. It comes down to wins and losses. That’s what it comes down to, and that’s what you’re ultimately judged by,” he explained not mentioning Bill Belichik’s name.
Interestingly enough, after this beef, it seems that Mayo has taken a play from Belichick’s book because of the way he answered but he will be evaluated for how he brings his team out of this hole they are in.
