More than a decade later, Parkinson returned to The Valley with Wrexham and came so close to winning all three points.

Cannon’s goal appeared to have won it for Wrexham, but Matt Godden’s injury-time penalty tied the game again. Charlton Athletic’s manager slammed a Wrexham player, leaving the club feeling disappointed.
Charlton’s last-gasp penalty was brutally awarded for handball against the recovering Max Cleworth as Wrexham battled to the finish line. Godden stepped up to score, leaving Wrexham players disappointed as three points converted into one.
Nathan Jones, Charlton’s manager, was also upset after the game, slamming one Wrexham player.
Jones told the South London Press that Sebastian Revan’s late challenge on Tyreece Campbell was a ‘disgrace’.
Revan, recruited from Aston Villa this summer, was brought off the bench.
Ryan Barnett was replaced out wide. Revan took Campbell down in a callous manner, and Jones suggested that Revan should have been sent off since he may have seriously injured Campbell.
“The tackle on TC was a disgrace,” Jones stated. “We speak about rules, and I’d rather be punched in the face than have someone wipe me out. That’s a young lad, 20 years old, sprinting full speed, and someone may come from behind and boot him, causing proper injuries.
“That’s a red card for me. That was a horrible challenge. That should be avoided because it can shatter legs, ankles, and alter people’s life. “I don’t like that,” he said.
Wrexham go through testing week undefeated.
Phil Parkinson may not have even considered that situation at the time, as Wrexham were undoubtedly devastated by the defeat.
This was always going to be a difficult week for Wrexham, as they traveled to Rotherham United and Charlton Athletic before hosting Huddersfield Town at home.
Two of those were in the Championship last season, and Charlton will always pose a threat in League One.
Wrexham earned five points from those three games, with one win and two draws.
Parkinson will be upset that Wrexham’s score from those three games isn’t seven points, but an unbeaten run during this time should be appreciated.
Wrexham’s next focus is Parkinson will be happy with his team’s performances over the last week, despite the FA Cup first round clash with Harrogate Town.
