Wrexham have signed former Leicester City player Matty James and ex-Reading star Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on short-term contracts.
What happened?
The League One promotion chasers have confirmed the signing of former Manchester United school product James on a contract until January, while ex-Wolves attacker Bodvarsson, 32, has also signed a short-term agreement for the same period. The former, now 33, achieved promotion to the Premier League with Leicester in 2014 and was part of the team that won the English top flight two years later. WHAT MATT JAMES SAID
The former Bristol City star told Wrexham’s website: “It feels great to be given the opportunity to play again and to join a club that’s moving in a direction that everyone is watching.” I’m thrilled and can’t wait to get started. Being out of routine was an unusual experience for me. I was training at Leicester, which I appreciate, but to be back in a men’s environment with the fellas – they’re a terrific group of guys, and I’ve enjoyed every minute so far. I want to enjoy playing football again, to try to help, to be a part of the team, and to do anything the coach asks. I wish to grow in terms of
Fitness and game time – there are a lot of games coming up, so I want to earn some minutes and progress from there.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Following the injuries to forwards Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher, as well as flexible defensive option George Evans, Wrexham have signed these two as cover, which manager Phil Parkinson is thrilled with.
He stated, “I’d like to welcome Jon and Matty to our club. With injuries to George Evans, Jack Marriott, and Steven Fletcher, it was critical to bring them in, and we look forward to working with both of them.”
The Red Dragons are second in League One and are striving for their third promotion in as many years.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Wrexham return to League One action on Saturday, when they travel to 11th-placed Charlton Athletic. On November 3, they will begin their FA Cup campaign with a first-round match away at Harrogate Town.
