Max Verstappen received a 20-second penalty at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Red Bull has allegedly decided whether to appeal Max Verstappen’s penalties from the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Ferrari triumphed again on Sunday at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, with Carlos Sainz finishing ahead of Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc.
However, as with the United States Grand Prix the week before, Verstappen and Norris grabbed the headlines.
The incumbent Formula One world champion received a 20-second penalty for forcing Norris off the circuit at Turns four and eight.
Verstappen finished sixth, cutting his lead in the standings to 47 points with four races remaining.
Norris was given a 5-second penalty in Austin, which McLaren attempted to appeal but was dismissed by the FIA.
Ahead of this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, all eyes will be on Red Bull and whether they will appeal the decision to penalize Verstappen with a 20-second penalty.
However, it has been believed that team leader Christian Horner has already made a decision.
According to Fox Sports Australia, Horner has indicated that they would not challenge the verdicts.
This comes after the Red Bull CEO released statistics in a bid to defend
Verstappen’s movements. Horner was sure that Norris would not have made the corner at Turn 4, claiming the Brit was carrying too much speed. Horner was quieter during Turn Eight.
Speaking about the incidents after the race, Norris said: “It’s evident that it doesn’t matter if he wins or second; his only duty is to beat me in the race, and he’ll sacrifice himself to do so, just like he did today.
“But I want to have a nice struggle with him. I want to have those intense bouts, like I’ve seen him do numerous times, but fair ones.”
The McLaren driver said, “I think today was not fair, clean racing, so I think he got what he deserved.” “I can’t speak for him, and he may say something different, but I believe today was a step too far from both, and the stewards clearly agreed.” I don’t see it as a win or anything like that; instead, I hope Max recognizes that he went too far.” F1 returns this weekend with the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace.
