Southampton fans are growing impatient with Russell Martin. That said, here are 3 managers who could replace him at Southampton. It remains to be seen where the Southampton owners sit with Russell Martin. While he will be given a bit more leeway in his first Premier League season in charge, it must be argued that he hasn’t performed as expected. As things stand, Russell Martin has Southampton rock bottom of the Premier League table. He set himself in good stead by managing a victory against Everton but in the final match before the international break, Southampton were beaten by Wolves to put them bottom of the table. So, if the Southampton owners do make the call to replace Russell Martin. Here are 3 options.
Three managers who could succeed Russell Martin at Southampton.
1. David Moyes.
David Moyes is an ambitious but reasonable choice. Despite being one of the Premier League’s most experienced managers, he is currently unemployed. Last season, he was released from West Ham.
It must be noted that this choice was not without debate. Many West Ham fans wanted to keep Moyes, as seen by the Hammers’ poor performance in his absence.
Some may not like the way he sets up tactically. However, when attempting to avoid relegation, any manager’s last priority is to play spectacular football. I would take Moyes in a heartbeat.
2) Mark Robins
It is not unreasonable to claim that this appointment would inspire Southampton supporters the least of the possibilities provided today. However, in order to be realistic, we must show Mark Robins as a viable competitor.
Robins is presently seeking a new management position after leaving Coventry City. Robins, who has faced Premier League heavyweights such as Manchester United and Wolves (more than Martin), could be worth a look.
3. Graham Potter
Graham Potter appears unlikely to take the job of managing Southampton. However, he has taken on increasingly tougher assignments and succeeded.
A manager who plays an appealing brand of football while not requiring too much assistance to complete the task. We’d be insane to pass down Potter for the job. However, it will come down to Potter’s willingness to accept responsibility.
