Wolves moved out of the relegation zone over the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Fulham.
Wanderers were able to build on their win over Southampton before the international break with a magnificent performance and victory at Craven Cottage, led by Matheus Cunha. Cunha equalised for Wolves before aiding Joao Gomes and scoring a spectacular second.
Wolves’ fourth goal came in injury time, scored by Goncalo Guedes.
It was a crucial win for Wolves because Fulham had a good start to the season and led the game through Alex Iwobi.
This result has the potential to help Wolves get going now, and both Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have detected a shift in Gary O’Neil.
Shearer and Lineker say Gary O’Neil has regained his spark at Wolves. Wolves won convincingly at Craven Cottage, a result that few expected.
In many ways, it was the Wolves’ best performance under O’Neil in a long time. Fulham are a terrific team, and Wolves rocked up away from home and were unable to play Santiago Bueno or Craig Dawson, so Mario Lemina filled in with Toti Gomes.
Wolves rode their luck a few occasions, but happily there was a genuine cutting edge in the closing third, and Cunha stepped up yet again.
Shearer praised Cunha as one of the season’s best performers, and the Premier League icon mentioned Gary O’Neil on the Rest Is Football podcast. He stated, “You can tell there’s a sense of confidence surrounding Gary O’Neil now. They had a really challenging start in terms of fixtures.
“We told them, ‘Now is the time to step up when they have winnable games.'” They surely have, and you can tell. Gary appears to have regained some of his spark.
“He’s regained his confidence and
Confidence has returned to the football club. I was always confident that they would be fine. “If they can keep him (Cunha) fit, they might be fine.”
Lineker added, “I totally agree on that.” Fulham’s result might be a trigger for Wolves.
It was fantastic to watch O’Neil enjoy the 4-1 victory over Fulham, given the prior few weeks must have been difficult for him, with speculation of his career being on the line.
Dawson and Bueno were both out of the Fulham game, which could have turned ugly. However, Lemina stood out, and there were other outstanding performances from Toti Gomes, Joao Gomes, and, of course, the irrepressible Cunha.

This victory could be a turning point for Wolves.
To win so convincingly against a quality team should boost confidence ahead of several very reasonable Premier League matchups.
It’s an opportunity to start climbing the table, and maybe Wolves can prolong their unbeaten streak.
