General Manager Chris Drury has claimed that the New York Rangers are willing to trade players to improve the squad.
The squad is now 12-8-1 and has lost its last three games to the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, and Carolina Hurricanes.
With a 2-2 split in the West, Drury is panicking and is expected to make a move soon.
Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba have been mentioned as the first two players in the organization who could be traded.
According to The Athletic’s Arthur Staple, they met with both players to discuss trade news that had surfaced in the public.
Jacob Trouba
Trouba, a right-handed defenseman, chose to stay in New York this summer after Chris Drury failed to sell him. The Rangers captain has a 15-team no-trade clause and can refuse trades to teams he does not like.
His deal is a costly $8 million AAV, and he has only scored 6 points in 20 games, but he might provide a formidable presence for whoever is lucky enough to obtain him from the 17-team list.
Trouba has chosen not to comment on recent speculations and instead focuses on playing hockey.
Chris Kreider
Chris Kreider is a lifetime Ranger whose name has emerged in trade negotiations and has yet to fade. The Rangers forward is a competent presence in any team’s top six, can contribute on the power play, and has three 30-goal seasons. In 19 games this season, he has only 9 points (9 G, 0 A) and could be traded to a contender. What’s more hilarious is that Drury has a mandate to win the Stanley Cup.
While Kreider is sluggish to start, will relocating him produce the kind of return that will keep the Rangers competitive?
