Argyle midfielder Adam Forshaw wants to make sure that Tuesday’s 6-1 humiliation against Norwich City is not forgotten.
Rather, Forshaw believes that the squad should use the experience to learn from and inspire them to address some of the faults that have contributed to occasional severe defeats this season.
Games at Sheffield. Wednesday, Cardiff City, and Leeds United all easily defeated Argyle, while several games in which the Greens struggled saw them concede goals in the first half.
As they prepare for a trip to Bristol City on Saturday, Forshaw and his Argyle teammates are hoping for a change of fortune, which can only be achieved by learning from Tuesday’s – and previous games’ – blunders.
“I don’t think you want to just park it and pass it by,” explained Forshaw, “since that has occurred a few of times. It was another early goal, which is biting us a little bit. We aim to eradicate it as soon as possible.
“Historically, winning away from home has been difficult, but staying in games longer, which builds more confidence, is something we’ll want to do quickly, especially with another tough away game coming up on Saturday.”
“We want to go on and put it behind us, but I believe we should first pick the bones of it and attempt to figure out what we need to do step by step. Starting by not allowing early goals will undoubtedly benefit us.
“I believe we succumb a little bit when we concede a few goals. Maybe [we need] some team know-how to just say, ‘Look, keep the score down’, since goal differential is important in the league.
“Losing 6-1 is unacceptable, regardless of who you play in your league. I don’t think this should be happening. That is on us as players. We should not allow it. Finally, we let the fans, manager, and staff down.
I believe our performances, particularly in the days leading up to that game, were subpar, but we had won and drawn two. We had a three-game winning streak coming into the contest. I believe it can be swiftly forgotten.
“We’ve got a lot of games coming up now. We know that [is the case] pretty much all the way through to March. A week is a long time in football, as everyone says, and a win on Saturday, and while the result may have left us with some scars, I believe it will be forgotten fast.
“We just need to dust ourselves off, work hard for the next few days, and go at it with as much confidence as we can. I believe we have enough quality in the team. We’ve demonstrated that.
“It’s tight down there, but that’s to be expected given where we are right now. I believe we’re at comparable positions to where the lads were before I arrived last season, which is absolutely a positive.
“We know we can do better. I believe that is a positive perspective.”
