Hank Brown, a former Auburn quarterback, is allegedly transferring to the Big Ten following two seasons with the Tigers.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the former three-star recruit from Tennessee committed to the Hawkeyes after visiting Iowa City this week. According to Thamel, Brown stated that the Hawkeyes’ appeal stemmed from their stable culture under Kirk Ferentz and the variety present in offensive coordinator Tim Lester’s approach. Brown, listed at 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, redshirted his first season at Auburn and appeared in one game in 2023. He played in four games for the Tigers this season, throwing for 403 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Brown’s greatest game came against New Mexico, where he threw for 235 yards and four touchdowns. However, he was intercepted three times in his following game against Arkansas, going 7-for-13 for 72 yards without a touchdown.
The fit at Iowa makes sense, with Lester entering in 2024 to help revive a lethargic offense left behind by Brian Ferentz. While the Hawkeyes did not set many scoring records, they were far superior to recent years and produced one of the top running backs in the country in Kaleb Johnson, while rotating a trio of quarterbacks.
Brown might possibly find a way to gain quick playing time at Iowa. The Hawkeyes lost three quarterbacks to the portal this offseason, including
Cade McNamara. McNamara was injured throughout his two-year tenure, but he was the team’s starter in 2023 and 2024.
We will see what the future holds for Brown.
