The Chicago Blackhawks called up their best prospect, Frank Nazar, from the minor levels on Friday.
At the same time, the organization placed defenseman Alec Martinez on injured reserve, effective December 7. Martinez, who signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Blackhawks in free agency, is nursing a neck issue. Nazar, 20, recorded 11 goals and 13 points in 21 games for Rockford of the American Hockey League. He said he tried not to think about the potential of being called up while playing for the IceHogs.Best Video Game Consoles
“I just play my game, focus on myself and obviously help the team win, best I could do, and let the rest come,” according to him.
This transfer brings Nazar back together with Anders Sorensen.
who was coaching Rockford before taking over as interim head coach for Chicago after Luke Richardson was dismissed on December 5. “It’s definitely really nice just to have someone that I know and trust and have a good relationship with,” Nazar told me. “I know that he’s going to give good feedback and everything like that, and just help out in areas where I need it.”
The Blackhawks selected Nazar with the 13th pick in the 2022 draft. Following a great performance at the University of Michigan, the forward signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in April.
Nazar appeared in three games for Chicago at the end of last season, scoring his first NHL goal against Carolina on April 14.Best Video Game Consoles
in the Blackhawks active in free agency, Nazar began the season in Rockford to further his development. However, his remarkable success in the minors presented a compelling case for his return to the NHL. “Frank’s played very well,” general manager Kyle Davidson said last week when questioned about Nazar’s promotion. “He’s been a real bright spot for us and his performance has been really exciting.”
Chicago (9-18-2) has lost six of its last seven games entering Saturday’s matchup in New Jersey. They’ll start a three-game homestand on Sunday.
Against the New York Islanders.
Nazar is anticipated to form a line alongside Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi against the Devils. Sorensen advised Nazar to trust his instincts.
“He’s been playing really well down there,” Sorensen added. “He can drive a puck and basically play his game, right? And then, after the game, we will chat more.”
