DONE DEAL : Clemson beat out Texas A&M and a few other top institutions to sign Purdue defensive lineman

Clemson is on a roll in the transfer portal.

After receiving a transfer pledge from wide receiver Tristan Smith earlier this week, Dabo Swinney and his staff have made a significant defensive acquisition. Clemson beat out Texas A&M and a few other top institutions to sign Purdue defensive lineman Will Heldt. Heldt has officially signed with Clemson. He is thought to be the first defensive transfer to sign with Clemson during the portal era. Swinney has been notoriously reluctant to accept transfers in recent seasons, but his stance appears to be changing.

Heldt makes a terrific defensive addition for the Tigers. He has 10 tackles for loss and 5 sacks for Purdue in

2023: Finished second on the squad in both categories. Heldt is likewise a young player with space for improvement. He was a 3-star talent for the class of 2023, but he made an early impact in West Lafayette. He is ranked 30th in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings as of publication and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Clemson is building its roster until 2025 while still preparing to face Texas in the College Football Playoff on Saturday night.
