Statement from Jaguars owner Shad Khan
This morning, I faced the unpleasant duty of advising Doug Pederson of my desire to appoint a new head coach to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars. Doug is an outstanding football player who will undoubtedly enjoy another chapter in his impressive NFL career, and I will root for him and his wife, Jeannie, when that time comes. As much as Doug and I both wish his time in Jacksonville had gone better, I have a primary responsibility to serve the best interests of our club, particularly our fans, who have been loyal supporters and are long overdue for recognition. In that spirit, now is the moment to call for new leadership.
I strongly believe it.
It is possible to reestablish the winning environment we had here not long ago. I will work with General Manager Trent Baalke and others in and around our organization to find a leader who shares my passion and is eager to grab the tremendous opportunity we will provide in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Jaguars dismissed coach Doug Pederson but kept general manager Trent Baalke on Monday, the team revealed.
Pederson’s firing comes after the team went 4-13 this season, losing 18 of its last 23 games.
