The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart are not wasting time this offseason. They may have fallen earlier than they had hoped in the College Football Playoff, but it has given them an opportunity to go ahead of their opponents in creating a national championship squad for 2025 and beyond.
Yes, they have lost some players to the NFL Draft and the Transfer Portal, but they are also preparing for future recruiting classes. And this week, amongst all of the College Football Playoff action, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was pursuing a five-star quarterback recruit who Georgia could very well land.
Jared Curtis, Five-star Quarterback
Most Georgia fans are already aware with the name Jared Curtis, since he was committed to the Georgia Bulldogs until October 17th of last fall. Curtis, a consensus five-star recruit in the 2026 class, made it clear when he decommitted from Georgia that he was not closing the door. He was simply opening up his recruiting to ensure that he was making the proper decision.
Mike Bobo and Kirby Smart’s team clearly want to ensure that Curtis understands that Georgia is the proper choice. So, on Thursday, offensive coordinator Bobo returned to visit the nation’s top QB recruit.
Since the beginning of Georgia’s recruitment of Jared Curtis, they have visited him more than any other program, with double-digit in-person meetings presently. They are not, however, the only ones who are pushing hard for Curtis’ services.
Last October, shortly after decommitting from the Bulldogs, the rising star paid visits to Auburn, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Alabama. Curtis is also apparently interested in Ohio State, as well as a number of other SEC institutions that may have a long shot chance.
Curtis recently won the Tennessee High School Football State Championship, completing more than 70% of his passes, throwing 40 touchdowns and rushing for over 20 more. He appears to be a lock for five-star rank.
The rankings for 2026 are finally in. Curtis is the type of special quarterback recruit who might immediately push Gunner Stockton, Ryan Puglisi, or whoever Georgia’s starting quarterback is when he arrives on campus. Bulldogs fans must hope he finds his way to Athens in the end.
It’s too early to say whether Curtis will recommit to Georgia, but a new visit from the offensive coordinator can’t harm. Hopefully, Kirby Smart and company will be able to close the purchase sooner rather than later.
