JUST IN : Georgia Bulldogs Fans Were Furious With Cotton Bowl Officials on Friday Night

On Friday night, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Texas Longhorns 28-14 to advance to the national championship game. Along the way, the game’s officials missed a call, which enraged Georgia Bulldogs fans all over social media.

Georgia’s season ended a week previously, with a 23-10 loss against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In that game, the Bulldogs were penalized after Parker Jones collided with a referee on the sideline, cutting Arian Smith’s 67-yard reception short by 15 yards. The Bulldogs had to settle for a field goal on that drive.

In the Buckeyes game, Jack Sawyer strip-sacked Quinn Ewers late in the fourth quarter and returned the ball 83 yards for a touchdown. Georgia fans were quick to point out that multiple Ohio State players and coaches were on the field during Sawyer’s run, and they were angry that they weren’t called for a penalty. Bulldogs fans took to X, now known as Twitter, to respond. @AbeFromanKing99 questioned the overall officiating in the 2024 College Football Playoff, stating, “What amazes me is how poor the officials they put in these playoff games are.”Georgia Bulldogs Fans Were Furious With Cotton Bowl Officials on Friday Night - Athlon Sports

@Unstablesportz is still clearly not dealing with Georgia’s defeat well, just tweeting, “It’s all rigged” in response to this revelation.

@MaverickHTN answered the crucial question that many fans brains, wondering why the officiating “cannot all be the same standard.” While Georgia may feel slighted by the officials in this game, it’s difficult to argue that this call would have significantly affected their fortunes versus Notre Dame. All they can do now is return to work throughout the offseason and begin preparing for the 2025 season with the hopes of having a deeper run in the CFP next year.
