GOOD NEWS : Texas Longhorns get big boost for 2025 season with 21 years old return

The return of Trey Moore for the 2025 college football season will provide a significant boost for Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns. Just one year ago, edge rusher Trey Moore decided to leave the UTSA Roadrunners and travel the short 82 miles to Austin to join the Texas Longhorns football program. Though Moore was hardly a household name, the bright young linebacker made waves while playing for the Roadrunners, placing third in the nation with 14 sacks during the 2023 season and earning AAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Just one year later, when it appeared Moore would leave for the NFL Draft or the transfer portal, as many of his Longhorns teammates have done, the veteran edge rusher announced he will return to Texas for a second season, according to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel. Most sites predicted Moore to be a day three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Though he wasn’t as effective as he was at UTSA, Moore was an immediate impact for the Longhorns, vying for snaps with top-tierITYT: Inside the Program - Early Impact Freshmen, Texas Retains Talent, Spring Portal Plan - On3 teammates against a step up in competition in the SEC. He completed his debut season at Texas with 35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 5.5 Sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. Two of the 5.5 sacks occurred in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals versus Arizona State. Moore will be joined by four incoming freshmen on the defensive line, including Justus Terry, Lance Jackson, Myron Charles, and Josiah Sharma, who are all top 250 prospects. According to 247Sports, the Longhorns now have the top-ranked recruiting class in 2025, ahead of SEC rivals Georgia and Alabama, as well as Big Ten powerhouses Ohio State and Oregon. Steve Sarkisian’s squad hasn’t done as well in the transfer process, but there’s still plenty of time to make up ground.
