Nottingham Forest’s supportive commentator, Darren Fletcher, has advised Morgan Gibbs-White to ease the pressure on himself. Despite his best efforts, the 23-year-old has yet to score this season and had an unfortunate game over the weekend.
Gibbs-White made a return to the starting lineup on Saturday when Forest played to a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace. The previous week, he was a substitute in a match where the Reds played with 10 men against Brentford.
Undoubtedly, Gibbs-White holds a significant role at the City Ground and has seamlessly adapted to life in the Premier League. As the season progresses, he undoubtedly hopes to add goals to his record.
Fletcher, a Forest supporter, is now urging Gibbs-White to take it easy. The player enjoys the backing of Steve Cooper, and although his recent benching against Brentford raised eyebrows, he is not expected to be a regular on the sidelines.
TNT Sports commentator Fletcher has come to Gibbs-White’s defense. He believes that the young talent places excessive pressure on himself to perform exceptionally in matches due to past responsibilities.
Fletcher shared his thoughts on the Garibaldi Red Podcast, saying, “I believe he’s an immensely talented footballer, but I think Morgan Gibbs-White places too much burden on himself to make a big impact in games because of his past experiences.”
He further added, “Last season, it was either him or Brennan Johnson who had to carry Forest to victory, and if they didn’t, the team struggled. But now, he doesn’t have to bear that weight. He can be part of a team with multiple match-winners, and I hope he benefits from this. Gibbs-White can choose his moments and not feel the weight of the world on his shoulders.”
While Gibbs-White’s strong work ethic is commendable, Fletcher makes valid points about how Gibbs-White can contribute to Forest’s future success.
From a technical perspective, Gibbs-White is undoubtedly Forest’s standout player. With other talented performers alongside him, the pressure on him should diminish somewhat.
Clearly, the 23-year-old has a deep affection for playing and performing well for Forest. Being benched against Brentford was likely disappointing for him, but he will be eager to return to his best form when domestic action resumes.
