Salernitana’s president, Iervolino, has cast doubt on the possibility of Wolverhampton Wanderers making a January move for Boulaye Dia. This comes after Wolves famously attempted to sign the Senegal international just before the transfer deadline.
Following their unsuccessful pursuit of Che Adams, Wolves turned their attention to the 26-year-old forward. However, the offer they presented was not deemed acceptable by Salernitana, leading to a public rebuke from their sporting director, Morgan De Sanctis.
Wolves’ last-minute approach had strained relations with Salernitana, and it appears that these tensions have yet to dissipate. President Iervolino has now indicated that Dia is likely to remain with Salernitana, despite earlier suggestions of a January move by Wolves.
While Wolves have made improvements in their attacking play this season, they still seem to lack a clinical finisher. Matheus Cunha, despite his contributions, has not been the answer to this issue. However, the chances of a January transfer for Dia now appear to be slim, as Iervolino firmly stated, “The case is closed, it’s over. Dia will stay at Salernitana.”
It’s worth noting that Dia faced a fine for his reaction to Salernitana blocking his potential move to Wolves, and he only recently completed a permanent transfer to the Italian club in the summer. The strong statement from Iervolino raises questions about whether Wolves may have jeopardized their chances of signing Dia in January, given Salernitana’s displeasure with their previous approach. Still, in football, the influence of money cannot be disregarded entirely, and a transfer might still be possible, particularly if Dia pushes for the move and makes it difficult for Salernitana to keep him.
