Mark Kennedy, the former Ipswich Town full-back, has decided to step down from his position as the head coach at Lincoln City, a League One team. This decision comes after a series of disappointing results, with just one win in their last six games. Kennedy had been leading the charge at Sincil Bank since May 2022 and had previously guided the Imps to a respectable top-half finish in League One last season. However, the team’s performance this season has been less than stellar, currently sitting in 16th place.

Kennedy’s final match as head coach was a 1-0 defeat at home against Burton Albion this past weekend. In total, he oversaw 73 matches during his tenure. It’s worth noting that Mark Kennedy concluded his playing career at Ipswich Town, initially signed by Roy Keane in the summer of 2010, where he made 37 appearances for the club.

After retiring from playing, Kennedy transitioned to coaching, starting with Ipswich Town’s U21s in 2012, before moving on to work with Manchester City’s academy in 2016. In 2019, he also spent time coaching with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ U23s side.

In December 2020, he briefly returned to Ipswich Town to shadow the club’s head of coaching and player development, Bryan Klug, as part of his quest to gain more coaching experience. Following this, he managed Macclesfield Town for a challenging seven months but ultimately resigned in August 2020, just before the club was wound up in the High Court.

Subsequently, in June 2021, Kennedy joined Birmingham City as a first-team coach, and later, he was appointed as the head coach at Lincoln City on a four-year contract.
