Daniel Farke’s team has had an impressive start to the season, yet they might consider reinforcing their squad in January. Leeds United, after their return to the Championship, has performed well, currently sitting in fifth place after 11 games.
Daniel Farke’s side has maintained an undefeated record at Elland Road, scoring 17 goals in the season, and their summer acquisition, Joe Piroe, has already scored five goals since joining from Swansea City.
Georginio Rutter is starting to justify his £35.5 million price tag from January, and the young Archie Gray continues to progress in his development. Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon have also been standout performers thus far.
However, with plenty of matches still ahead, the upcoming January transfer window offers a perfect opportunity to strengthen the squad further or secure players whose contracts expire in the summer.
At LeedsLive, we have identified three players who could seamlessly fit into the United squad, enhancing the already solid Championship performance this season.
John Lundstram
Liverpool native Lundstram recently made the move from Sheffield United to Rangers, bringing his tenacious midfield skills to a new challenge at Ibrox. Having faced Leeds during his time at Bramall Lane, Lundstram’s contract in Scotland is set to expire at the end of the season. With experience in the Premier League and European competitions, he would be a valuable addition to any Championship team and might even free up Ethan Ampadu to play further forward due to his defensive capabilities.
Michail Antonio
Michail Antonio has been a loyal servant to West Ham United but will be a free agent in the summer, making him an interesting prospect. At 33, West Ham may be considering alternative options for their attack. If Leeds secures promotion, Antonio might find the idea of returning to the Premier League appealing. His track record in top-tier English football speaks for itself, making this a deal worth exploring.
Harry Toffolo
Harry Toffolo had his share of off-field issues in 2023 but remains a solid option with significant Premier League experience. A move to Leeds makes geographical sense, though it’s uncertain if the former Huddersfield player will be retained next summer. At 28, Toffolo still has plenty of football left in him, and given his limited role at the City Ground last season, Leeds could swoop in to secure his services for the upcoming season.
