Fabrizio Romano has just given an update regarding the future of Manchester United’s winger, Jadon Sancho.
The 23-year-old has been absent from the club’s lineup ever since his brief 30-minute appearance against Forest, during which he expressed his frustration with manager Erik ten Hag. Sancho took to social media to declare that he felt like a ‘scapegoat’ at the club, resulting in his exclusion from the first-team squad.
Romano, the well-known journalist, has now confirmed a strong possibility of Sancho departing in the upcoming January transfer window, with rumors swirling about a potential move to Steve Cooper’s team. This update from Romano might be seen as promising news for Forest.
However, there’s a financial hurdle to consider. While Sancho may be inclined to leave Old Trafford in January, the Reds might not be in a position to meet the transfer fee that United could demand. A potential alternative could be a loan move, but Forest already has two Premier League loan players in the form of Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Nuno Tavares, which means one of them would need to return to their parent club.
Santos, in particular, is reportedly unhappy with his limited playing time at the City Ground, having started just once since his loan arrival. Given Sancho’s relationship with the current Reds boss, Cooper, a January transfer may seem unlikely, although it can’t be completely ruled out.
While the prospect of Sancho making a move to Forest appears improbable, it remains a tantalizing option should he fail to reconcile with United boss ten Hag. This scenario could potentially present an exciting opportunity for Forest to pursue the 23-year-old, as past instances have seen troubled United players making their way to the City Ground, such as Jesse Lingard’s move last summer.
