Joel Piroe, a Dutch footballer, left Swansea City at the end of the summer, and he credits Leeds United’s manager, Daniel Farke’s ambition, for his decision to move to the club. He did, however, find it challenging to depart Swansea City, as his future there had been uncertain during the summer. Initially, it appeared he would stay with Swansea for the remainder of his contract, but a dispute between the club’s management and his representatives led to uncertainty.
Eventually, a resolution was reached just a week before the transfer window closed, and Piroe made a £12 million move to Leeds United. He has had a strong start at Elland Road, scoring five goals in 10 Championship matches. Despite his success, he acknowledges that the summer filled with speculation was difficult to navigate. Piroe shared his experience, saying, “Of course you go in every day and work hard and focus on what you have to do, but it was quite challenging. Even if you try to ignore all the noise, you still have conversations, and you always hear or see things. It was a lot to think about, but because it’s my career, I had to make a choice.”
Piroe felt that Leeds was the right fit from the moment they expressed interest in signing him. A conversation with manager Daniel Farke played a crucial role in finalizing the deal. Piroe explained, “I had a chat with the manager, and he clearly communicated the club’s ambitions and what they wanted to achieve. I wanted to align my goals with the club’s, so it made sense for me to make the move. I saw the potential in the squad and knew it was where I wanted to be. We have many talented individual players, and it’s enjoyable to work together to make it all come together. We can still improve, and we’re constantly working on that.”
Although Piroe’s impressive goal-scoring record made him an attractive signing, questions arose about how he would fit into the team with Georginio Rutter already on the roster. However, Piroe and Rutter’s partnership has shown promise, with them jointly scoring a goal that earned Piroe the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for September. Piroe expressed optimism about their partnership, saying, “There are still areas we need to work on, but we’re growing every day and getting to know each other better. The team is set up with two strikers who swap roles, and I think it brings out the best in both of us. I believe we will only continue to improve.”
